Foundation

Tadeusz Kościuszko

The goal of the Foundation is to preserve the memory of a great man, to remind us of his wisdom and achievements. Promoting the values which he was and is the embodiment of. And how he was...

... this is perhaps best reflected in the words of the nineteenth-century French historian Jules Michelet, who wrote about him: "... I am convinced that his kindness, so extraordinary, so great, had an immeasurable, infinitely friendly influence on the future of his homeland. - With on the one hand, he won the hearts of all nations: many became convinced that there is absolute human goodness in a Pole. - On the other hand, in this high moral perfection, various states of Poland, so unhappily torn apart, found a common ideal and a new point of union. - The nobility welcomed the knight from the times of the Crusades, and the peasants, having found in him a good heart and common sense and the spirit of self-sacrifice of poor people, felt that he was their man, that he was Poland itself.

301 Pine Street

In Philadelphia, at 301 Pine St, there is a house where Tadeusz Kościuszko lived during his second stay in America. It is now home to the Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial, which is part of the Independence National Historical Park (INHP). The national park itself is a place annually visited by 5 million people from all over the world, a place dedicated not only to the history of the USA, but also to modern Western democracy.

  Why the 301PineStreet Foundation?

220 years after the glorious welcome of the returning hero greeted by 13 cannon salvos, unharnessing horses and pulling his carriage by residents, the place where visitors to Philadelphia from all over the world and all cultures can meet the figure and wisdom of this great man is open only from April to October on Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 16. At the same time, all facilities of Independence National Historical Park are open all year round, every day, from 9 to 17!

50 years ago, when there was a discussion on the creation of the Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial, many noble people had no doubts about this necessity. Senator Philip A. Hart put it beautifully:

"There are doubtless many reasons why a nation should preserve historic loca tions , but one of the principal reasons is the desire to help future generations learn and draw inspiration from the past [...] In honoring General Kosciuszko , we honor more than a military man , more than a citizen of Poland who fought to free this nation as well as his own . We honor a man who dedicated his life to a belief that man should be free . In doing so , we honor all men who believe in liberty , and beyond them , we honor the concept of liberty itself . "

Today, no one seems to remember it.

How not to feel grief?

Therefore, the goal of the foundation is to keep the memory of people to whom we owe so much and so easily forget what we have received thanks to them.
